It’s true to a point that a string bet at first appears like a call, and though later turns out to be like a raise. So play accordingly to put yourself away from the loss.
Some practices look good while being at home and playing poker, and flinging chips staunchly into the pot is one of them. But you will have to do it entirely different way in public game. A player in Hold’em forever thinks like not to be trampled once having “the nuts”, and a player entangled in such case is expected not to stop, even if all the cards are out and you get a hold of raising war with someone. Rather the good move would be to raise to see one of you runs out of chips.
